Description:
The New River Valley Police Benevolent Association would like to remind you of Project Blue Light this Christmas season. Project Blue Light originated with the idea of a single survivor, Mrs. Dolly Craig. Dolly's son-in-law, Philadelphia Officer Daniel Gleason, had been killed in the line of duty in 1986. When his widow, Dolly's daughter, was killed in a car accident in 1988, Dolly wrote to the COPS National office that she was putting two blue lights in her window that Christmas. One is for Dan, and the other is for Pam, who believed so much in the COPS organization. Dolly Craig is now deceased as well, but the idea of a single survivor burns brightly each year for all of us. One survivor told the MI-COPS office that whenever she saw a blue light, she knew it was for her son. Yes, it is and there's also one for my son, for your husband, for a departments co-worker, and for all the brave men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty. The blue light also shines for all officers who continue to risk their lives for the rest of us. The color blue is symbolic of peace. By displaying your blue lights, you will be sending a dual message that you support America's law enforcement. WHAT YOU CAN DO 1. Put a single blue light in your front window or on your porch. 2. Decorate your wreaths and trees, inside and out, with strings of blue lights. 3. Outline a large badge in blue lights. 4. Send a letter to your local newspaper asking residents to show their support for the safety of local police officers by displaying a blue light in their windows. 5. Include blue candle decals with your Christmas cards. 6. Distribute blue lights to neighbors, area merchants, sheriff offices and police departments. 7. Organize a memorial service that features a tree lighting in blue, of course Think you can't make a difference? Think of Dolly Craig and her 2 blue lights. Be safe, Jason L.
